Denton LULAC #4366 Iniatiaves

We provide scholarships to approximately 25 deserving Denton ISD seniors each year, offering financial support to help them achieve their educational dreams. Contributions are matched at 50% for the first $18K by our national partners.

Additionally, we are expanding our mentorship and internship programs, which connect students—particularly first-generation and immigrant students—with local professionals for guidance and real-world experience. Our growing internship program offers both paid and unpaid opportunities.

We also support LULAC Youth Councils in local high schools and middle schools, providing a space for young people to network, collaborate, and develop leadership skills.

Advocacy for Hispanic-Serving Institutions:

Denton is home to three Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs)—the University of North Texas, Texas Woman’s University, and North Central Texas College—but they often lack adequate resources. We advocate for increased support to help these institutions better serve their Hispanic student populations and fill gaps through community-led initiatives when needed.

Celebrating and Promoting Culture & Heritage:

We host events and programs that honor and educate the community about Hispanic culture and its rich history. Our archives, accessible at the Emily Fowler Library and the Texas Portal, preserve the legacy of Hispanic leaders and civil rights efforts. [Explore Our Cultural Initiatives].

Support for the Community:

We provide resources, advocacy, and a sense of community by connecting individuals to local and national organizations, including LULAC’s state and national offices. Our volunteers work to ensure fair representation for Denton’s Hispanic residents, who make up over 25% of the city’s population and 31% of its K-12 students.

Leadership Development

We provide financial assistance for community members to participate in Leadership Denton, a prestigious program that prepares future leaders to represent Denton’s diverse population. Our advocacy focuses on increasing Hispanic representation in local government, school boards, and leadership positions, ensuring that Denton’s Hispanic community, which makes up over 25% of the population, has a voice in key decisions.

Voter Engagement

We collaborate with certified voter registrars to increase voter turnout, especially among first-time voters. Our efforts aim to empower the community by ensuring their voices are heard at the polls and encouraging active participation in shaping the future of our local government.
